You know how it does no good to build a solid house on shaky ground? That’s how I feel about life without a relationship with God. It’s beyond pointless. It’s unsustainable. Vertical alignment is bringing God into your equation.

‘sounds heavy, right? It’s more like… deep. The depth comes from being consistent. Which is kind of like being loyal, if you think about it. Consistently putting time into a relationship with God pays off because that time, that loyalty changes you.

Here’s an example. I can’t tell you the number of times I wanted to throw my husband under the bus to others during our trials. Especially early on. I felt so justified and hurt (a dangerous combination.) But because I was spending so much time with God, my consciousness held my ego at bay. I wanted to please God more than I wanted to be right. Powerful.

So how do you create this relationship? How does it deepen? Through prayer. Talking and listening to God. The second part is crucial. If you can’t hear Him, that’s okay. There’s plenty to read. His written Word will guide you. You only need to seek it.

Now if this is new to you, take it easy. Be sure not to judge yourself or compare your prayer ability to anyone else’s. God isn’t. He wants you exactly the way you are. He wants you to pray the only way you can. Just turn to Him. Choose Him.

And He will make all of your earthly relationships better. Your best self shows up when you spend more time with God. It’s that simple. What’s best for you turns out to be best for others, too. God is good!
